"My children absolutely LOVED this museum!  My wife and I did too!  This is the best hands-on experience with animals I have experienced.  The staff was super friendly and my kids got to handle many cool (and creepy :-)) insects.  The pictures and videos were great, and the gift shop had very nice things to choose from.  We all left very happy after this visit!  Strongly recommended."

"I went here yesterday and I loved it, staff is so friendly and very educated on the reptiles, bugs, and even fossils and more.  I was pleased to see such a variety and they even say me down and taught me a little about certain bugs and let me hold them. Great experience. Thank you Reptile and Bug Museum!"

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why is The Santa Fe Reptile & Bug Museum so popular?

The Santa Fe Reptile & Bug Museum's popularity stems from its unique approach to engaging visitors with the natural world. By tapping into the inherent fascination and fear that people often have towards reptiles and bugs, the museum creates an immersive experience that is both educational and captivating. Through carefully crafted exhibits and hands-on activities, visitors can overcome their apprehensions and develop a deeper understanding and appreciation for these often misunderstood creatures. This interactive approach not only entertains but also fosters empathy and respect for the diverse ecosystems in which these animals play crucial roles.

Moreover, the museum's commitment to environmental education and conservation further enhances its appeal. By highlighting the interconnectedness of all living things and the importance of preserving biodiversity, the Santa Fe Reptile & Bug Museum inspires visitors to become stewards of the environment. Through engaging displays of artifacts, fossils, and live specimens, visitors are encouraged to reflect on their relationship with nature and consider how their actions impact the world around them. This emphasis on environmental consciousness resonates with a wide audience, making the museum a popular destination for families, students, and nature enthusiasts alike.

  • Where is the museum located?

At the present time, the Museum offers outreach programming but does not have a physical location, but we hope to have one again in the future!

  • Why did we change our name?

We changed to a non-profit community organization and we felt our name should reflect that. Also, we felt that reptiles should be included in our name because they have always been a part of our Museum!

  • What happened to the Harrell House Bug Museum?

The Harrell House lost its space unexpectedly and on very short notice in December 2021. The support we received from the community at that time inspired us to become a nonprofit organization to continue as The Santa Fe Reptile and Bug Museum.

  • Why reptiles and bugs?

While it’s true that reptiles and arthropods are not closely related (they are from completely different phylums), they are both equally misunderstood by mankind.

  • How are you funded?

We are funded primarily through tax-deductible donations and sponsorships from supporters. We receive additional funding through outreach programs.
